CARTOUCHE LTD was founded by Bookbinder Joseph Ziemba in 1983 for the sale of Antquarian Books and Ephemera. The collection was marketed through upscale antique shows in major Southeast US cities. While living in Washington DC he attended classes and workshops in hand bookbinding taught by staff members of the Library of Congress at the Smithsonian Institution. He opened his first studio when he moved to Greenville, NC where he volunteered as a book conservator at the East Carolina University Library. After moving to Vancouver WA he continued his interest in books and their preservation and opened a studio in his home. In conjunction with his book restoration work he collected distressed copies of Dickens first and early editions in book form. This site includes the inventory of these volumes restored to a Very Good or Good condition. They have been catalogued on Biblio.com from which you can view photos, binding, and illustration condition and to purchase.
